Researchers at UNMC are enrolling teens aged 15 to 18 who currently use e-cigarettes (vaped on one or more days in the past 30 days), along with one of their parents/guardians, for a new study on youth vaping cessation. The goal is to test whether a new program can help teens quit vaping with support from their parent/guardian. Both the teen and parent/guardian will participate in the study, but their involvement will be separated.

Participating in this study involves the following:

  1. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the PhP-VX program or not.
  2. All participants, regardless of what group they are randomized into, will be asked to complete a baseline survey and three follow-up surveys at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.
  3. If assigned to the PhP-VX program:
    • Both teens and parent/guardians will complete baseline and follow surveys.
    • Teens and parents/guardians will complete six online vaping cessation lessons.
    • Parents/guardians will meet with a coach every other week for 3 months.
  4.  If not assigned to the PhP-VX program:
    • Both teens/guardians will complete baseline and follow up surveys.
    • You will not receive the online lessons or materials until after the final survey has been completed or six months have passed since the baseline.
  5. Teens may be asked to provide saliva samples by mail (this is optional).
  6. The entire study is conducted remotely.

If both the teen and parent/guardian are eligible and choose to participate, each will receive compensation. The parent/guardian participating must have authority to consent to the child's participation. If you are interested in participating, please complete the form below.
